The above photo shows how the distributor vacuum hoses connect to the left carburetor but on some models, there is a vacuum advance cutoff that goes between the distributor advance and the carb so I’ve bypassed the cutoff for the sake of illustration. The cutoff is activated by a switch on the transmission. Bentley says it exists on all dual carb models except with manual transmission. Two hoses connect to a temperature valve on the right air horn The red hose goes on the right nipple and goes to the control box on the air cleaner. The green hose goes to the rubber tee on the left carb for the brake booster line. There is a pipe that connects the left air horn to the left carb’s central idling air intake.
You will want to be able to identify a ported vacuum source from a manifold vacuum source from an EGR vacuum source. Ports are also supplied on most carbs for the PCV system and for a power brake booster. At idle there should be no vacuum or very nearly so, depending on how far the primary throttle blades are opened to allow the engine to idle.

February 24, , I have to admit the exact functionality of these canisters is a bit of a mystery to me. Here are my thoughts – First would be the small hose that is on the round dohicky labeled Manifold Vacuum in my image. I believe this can go to any full manifold vacuum source. This is the one piece of this puzzle that I’m not sure on. If your carb does not have a bowl vent hookup then your carb does not need it. However, I wonder if blocking it off will cause problem for the canister system?
In other words, is the system designed such that this line needs to be “vented”?
All I need is time and money! This is a sealed system. It’s purpose is to prevent gasoline fumes from evaporating into the air.

The rebuild never seems to last and some of the areas like leaking around linkage and dry gaskets are often not fixable. They are too complicated, too hard to adjust, and in a difficult place to work on. I have a new engine, is the old carb still correct for the heavy breather? With a closed loop control, this should be adjusted automatically.
The ITK option replaces the vacuum advance canister. Vacuum advance is an available option on the Street/Strip version but due to space limitations may need to be eliminated for clearance. The Dodge Big Block DUI is based on the HEI (High Energy Ignition) system and although it is uniquely designed, replacement parts can be found at any local.
I meant Olympus has bigger bags. Miele vacuum — upright or canister? Ours is apparently the Titan. It’s also great for people with allergies because of the filters. It’s a really high quality machine. So easy to operate, change filters, etc. I didn’t realize they had an attachment for wood floors too – only saw that after the link posted. That’s what Miele is really known for. Plus they are SO light it’s not that big of a deal to carry.
It’s really confusing to choose between the models but if you spend enough time you can figure out the difference. Basically there are 3 different “series” which is basically 3 different sizes. Within each series the models are often very similar except for one small feature.
Blog Ported Vacuum vs. Manifold Vacuum I found this article while searching for good tech information on the comparison of ported vacuum versus manifold vacuum. I don’t know the author so I can’t give valid credit. Net doesn’t indorse either method and there is a lot of discussion as to which is better. So, I’ll present the article and you, the reader, decide.
Apr 09, · 1)I think that is the ported vacuum so attach the large carb bowl nipple from canister to that 2)The middle ish top small nipple on canister to t into pcv 3)The small nipple on the right above the pcv one to the same port on carb as step one or to lockup solenoid.
Tom, Are you using the original thermal vacuum switch with the 5 hose vacuum harness? The original 68 distributor had a two-way advance unit. Vacuum was “switched” between the two sides of the diaphragm to advance OR retard the timing, depending on coolant temperature and engine vacuum levels. Attached images show how to connect the original system. If I remember correctly, there were 3 vacuum source feeds to the thermal vacuum switch. One was the hard line coming from front of the carb, the second was the hollow carb mounting stud right rear stud; you can see it has a hose on it in the images and the third was from the T fitting at the back of the carb.
I don’t remember exactly how the system was designed to work, but I remember that it would pull all the advance out at idle to reduce emissions. There are two hoses that go to the vacuum advance unit on the distributor. One is attached to the capped nipple on the metal canister with the black plastic cap at the rear of the intake manifold. The other hose the goes to the advance unit is the long hose coming out of the vacuum switch.

Your hub for horsepower Get first access to hit shows like Roadkill and Dirt Every Day Join free for 14 days now A normal trip for most Pontiacs today includes a number of different throttle positions ranging from idle to full throttle. Rapid acceleration or heavy engine workloads typically require excessive throttle position to intensify combustion and increase output.
Because the burn requires a fixed time, spark must start earlier as engine speed increases due to less available combustion time. Distributors mechanically advance spark lead in relation to TDC for maximum performance in these conditions. The carburetor is designed to provide minimal amounts of fuel and air in light-load conditions such as part-throttle cruise.
Not only is such a mixture more difficult to ignite, the flame spreads slower, delaying peak pressure. For maximum performance in these conditions, spark must occur even earlier, sometimes in excess of 50 degrees BTDC. Vacuum Advance Basics A heavily loaded engine produces little vacuum while the highest vacuum levels occur at sustained light-throttle cruise.
